Word Swap Wednesday: Worse/Bad

There’s nothing “bad” about stuttering!

It’s not a moral issue, nor is it a failing. When I used to have a day that I stuttered a lot, I’d say “my stuttering was really bad today” until someone asked me why it was “bad”. It was suggested that instead of bad, perhaps I could use more accurate language. My stuttering was more prevalent today. This helped me not feel so upset if my stutter was more noticeable.

It went from casting a judgement (stuttering=bad) to an observation that had way less emotional weight
